As a gay man who belongs to a minority group, my perspective on the challenges faced by disenfranchised communities has been shaped by my lived experiences. In an increasingly multifaceted 2SLGBTQIA+ culture, my multifaceted identity enables me to integrate diverse perspectives and better assist others. Having a diverse background has equipped me with the capacity to be inclusive of other people's identities, thereby enabling me to support and uplift marginalized communities.

What makes you feel empowered in your identity?

Advocacy is a critical element of my personal empowerment within my LGBTQIA+ identity. Unfortunately, many members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community face significant challenges to self-advocacy, particularly within their family of origin. By advocating for others within the community, we can create a positive impact and give back in ways that we may not have received in our own youth. Ultimately, by building up our community through advocacy, we can create a stronger social safety net that benefits all members of the LGBTQ+ community.

I'm a fierce friend and advocate for my chosen family and I have an adventurous spirit especially when it comes to food and travel!

What is your favorite part about the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Oklahoma? What would you like to see more of ?

One aspect of the LGBTQ+ community in Oklahoma that I particularly appreciate is the abundance of supportive and affirming organizations that are available. However, to maximize the impact of these organizations, there is an opportunity to facilitate increased collaboration and partnership among them. By working together more closely, these organizations can achieve even greater positive outcomes for the community they serve.
