5 Reasons to Get Yourself in Front of the Camera
Whether it's selfies, photos with friends, or getting professional portraits done, I truly believe that consistently getting in front of a camera can change your life and how you see yourself. Here are 5 reasons I think everyone should make a habit out of having their photo taken.
1. Awareness of self/growth
How many times have you gone through long phases of life, seen a picture of yourself and thought “Is that what I look like?” Unless we are staring in front of a mirror all day, we are’nt exactly taking ourselves in the way those around us are. When this is the case, it is easy to see a new wrinkle and think, “Well damn, guess I’m gettin old” instead of seeing your aging process bit by bit and admiring your growth. Its easy to nit pick at little things about ourselves when we don’t take the time to appreciate the intricate details of our bodies.
2. Photos can be a gift to those who love us
Pictures are keepsakes for us. Our bodies are not permanent on this earth, but the memory of an individual lives on and is cherished by those that love them. There is something so special about having a beautiful image of a loved one to hold onto, to remember their beauty inside and out.
5. stepping out of your comfort zone
One of the most important things we can do for ourselves is continue to step out of our comfort zone and challenge ourselves. Getting in front of the camera can be terrifying. Even doing self portraits alone used to be scary for me, but the more I did it, the more comfortable I got AND the more I began to love my body. Vulnerability is scary, but you can’t grow without it.
3. Getting in front of the camera helps you get comfortable with your body
You know all your bodies quirks and tendencies, but how often do you allow your body to just exist in all that it is all the while celebrating it? It brings me so much joy to encourage and hype up my clients. I love creating a safe space for people to truly interact with and enjoy their bodies.
4. build confidence
When you have images of yourself that you really love, it can change the way you look at yourself. I have been taking portraits for over a decade. I have learned all the right poses and angles for any kind of body. What works for me might not work for you, and that’s okay. A huge part of building confidence comes from letting yourself discover what works for you and your body and pressing into that. Having a space where you get to decide what you wear, how you look, how you want to be perceived… That freedom and agency builds confidence, and I promise to be your hype man the entire time. YOU are BEAUTIFUL and your body deserves to be celebrated for the work of art it is
