So What’s an Empowerment Session and is it for Me?
I’m not comfortable in front of a camera…how can i change thaT?
The straightforward answer would be to just get in front of a camera. But I also know it’s not always that easy. If you want to have your own Empowerment Session but you’re feeling anxious, maybe warm yourself up before taking that big step. Dip your toes in before diving deep. Starting as small as taking some selfies while you’re feeling cute and confident, looking through images of yourself that you love, dressing up at home in things that make you feel confident; all these things can have such a ripple effect. They can be a small and personal way to celebrate your body without any sort of pressure of anybody else watching. The more you slow down to celebrate and document your body, the more comfortable you’ll grow in doing that.
I talk all the time about using photography as a tool for self-love, one of the ways I practice that is through my Empowerment Sessions. But do you ever wonder what that means? Is it not just a different word for Boudoir?
For me, Boudoir very much can, and often does, fit into an Empowerment session. But I like to use the word Empowerment because these types of sessions are ALL about the client and what makes them feel EMPOWERED. The only goal is finding what makes you feel most yourself, celebrated, and beautiful. I have had clients that want full nudity, partial nudity, lingerie, a gown, jeans and a tank top. There is no script. Every session is intimately tailored to the individual
How to figure out what works for you
Ask yourself: in what moments and under what circumstances have I felt most myself? What’s an article of clothing and/or accessory that always has me taking selfies? What kind of music helps me let loose and get in tune with my body? What do I love most about myself and want to have a permanent image to look back on? All of these questions go into tailoring a session specifically for you so that you feel your absolute best.
